Sermons in Stone

Why would a medieval Christian chapel, with gothic architecture soaring heavenward, realistic statuary of saints and illustrated bible stories, filled with the light and beauty of stained-glass windows, also feature these monsterous creatures?

Finally! After 50 years at work, 30 of them in my own business, I can relax a little and do what I’ve always loved – write!

I’ve written dozens of non-fiction books, articles and training courses. Now it’s time for me to explore the story-telling universe and I hope you’ll join me.

My kids are grown with families of their own. I now live on the east coast of Australia, in a small holiday town. The beach is a few minutes walk away.

My “semi-retirement” life is very fulfilling. I was fortunate enough to meet another very successful writer who lives just around the corner and she has become a mentor and friend and introduced me to the local community of authors.

In 2013, I was a tourist in London, returning to the city of my birth for the first time, when I notice the gargoyles of Westminster Abbey. Inside there are 95 statues of saints. Outside, demonic and grotesque stone creatures prowl the walls. Why are they there?

So began my creative adventure into the fictional gargoyle world. I hope you’ll come along with me and enjoy!

Guardian Creatures in Stone

In China and India elaborate carved lions and lion-dogs protect palaces, temples, government buildings and homes. Realistic, giant lions can be seen today, in London, guarding Westminster Bridge and Trafalgar square. In Hong Kong, two life sized bronze lions guard the...

Does this gargoyle look familiar?

If you think this gargoyle looks familiar you’re right. Although it resides on the 13th century Paisley Abbey, it is a replica of of the alien in the 1980s movie of the same name. Why? In 1991 twelve ancient, crumbling gargoyles were replaced. In the tradition of...
